(Neb.)-Upgraded Swimming Pool A Possibility For Chadron  Listen

(CHADRON)-The city of Chadron is that much closer to the possibility of a new enclosed swimming pool. City manager Wayne Anderson shared a progress report at a city council meeting in December regarding the new swimming pool committee’s findings.
The committee, which is made up of community members as well as city and Chadron State College officials, consists of Dr. Terry Owen, Sandy Roes, Corry Pourier, Mary Helen Cogdill, Mitch Merkel, Patty Pourier, Dale Grant, Janet Johnson, Jerry Moss, and city manager Anderson.
            Anderson says in the past few weeks, the committee has had several very productive meetings.

The committee has discussed the pool’s list of stakeholders and specific needs of the community as well as a vision for the facility and a list of criteria to be included, which they’ve prioritized into three categories: “essential or must have,” “needed but not essential,” and “wants or nice to have.” Some of those items include…

Anderson says the list of benefits an upgraded pool would provide to the community is long.

Anderson says the idea for upgrading the city pool came as Chadron State College was demolishing their old pool and planning toward a new one.

The committee sent out requests for qualification to five architectural firms and received submissions from four. Upon further evaluation, the committee selected Dave Burbach of Burbach Aquatics by a unanimous vote. Anderson said Burbach stood out above the rest for a variety of reasons.

Anderson said a nice element of the planning process with Burbach Aquatics is that the city is not being charged for their services yet.

The swimming pool project will most likely be one of the items discussed at the city council’s upcoming workshop scheduled for next Tuesday.
