08/18/2019 - Mildred 'Hazel' (Thunder Bull) Billy

Funeral services for Mildred “Hazel” Lavon (Thunder Bull) Billy “Tatonka Wakiyan Win” (Thunder Bull Woman), age 91, will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the Little Wound School Small Gym in Kyle, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Orville Looking Horse – Calf Pipe Keeper.

Burial will be at St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery in Kyle, SD.

A one-night wake service will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Little Wound School Small Gym in Kyle, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM.

Hazel was born on September 26, 1927 in Kyle, SD to Shields Thunder Bull and Josephine (Bissonette) Thunder Bull. She made her journey to the Spirit World on August 10, 2019 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Mildred is survived by daughters Ruth Billy (Marty Mardis) of Kyle, SD, and Keeyan (Billy) Hofer and Jordan Hofer of Harrisburg, SD; grandchildren, Frank Iron III, Matthew, Patrick, Santee, and Mildred Iron, Robert Miller, Hannah and Robin Mardis, Lovena Billy, Crayton, Myron and Deeann O’John; great-great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Matayah and Demetria Iron, Patrick Iron, Jr., Jordan and Makaylee Iron, Matthew Iron, Jr., Layla, Weston and Laiel light Foot, Ian Light Foot, Jr., Gordon, Trayton, Darian and Iris O’John, Brittany Iron, Santee Iron, Jr., Darius and Israel Iron; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Shields and Josephine Thunder Bull; sisters, Mabel L. (Thunder Bull) Eagle Heart, Prudy Thunder Bull, Theresa (Thunder Bull) Gates, Grace (Thunder Bull) Janis, Cora (Thunder Bull) King, Veronica (Thunder Bull) King and Victoria (Thunder Bull) Iron Cloud; brothers, Lawrence Thunder Bull (in infancy) and Vincent Thunder Bull; daughters, Gina Audrey (in infancy) and Iris (Billy) O’John; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be: Jamie Big Crow, Raymond King, Todd Janis, Michael Seminole, Roger Campbell, Richard Iron Cloud, Billy Gourd and Shields King.

Honorary Pallbearers will be All Sundancers and Their Families, Carol Blue Bird, Deanna Provost, Dickie Marshall, Barbara Short Horn, Ellen Kaver and All Friends & Relatives.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Mildred “Hazel” Lavon (Thunder Bull) Billy “Tatonka Wakiyan Win” (Thunder Bull Woman).
