After graduation, he worked on various ranches until 1948. Then he worked as a fireman on the Chicago Northwestern/Burlington Northern Railroad and was stuck in the snow on the train in the ’49 blizzard for two weeks.

Jack then worked on several ranches and lived south and west of town on the Cherry Creek Ranch from 1955 to 1967 when they purchased the M&L Market and ran the store for 16 ½ years. After the store was sold, they continued to ranch until they sold the ranch. They moved to Casper, WY in 2016 to be close to their daughter for care.

Jack is survived by wife of 69 years Arlene; son Steven (MaryAnn) Ellis of Cheyenne, WY; daughter Sheri (Ray) Hoevet of Casper, WY; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
