Funeral Services for 78-year old Josephine Alice (Long Soldier) Ryan  4:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2019 4:00 PM at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Rapid City, SD, with Pastor Henrique Fleming officiating.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be Friday March 15 at 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Rapid City, SD.

Josephine Alice (Long Soldier) Ryan was born on August 13, 1940 in Hisle, SD to Levi Long Soldier and Mollie (Randall) Long Soldier and made her journey to the Spirit World on March 8, 2019 at the Grand Coulee Medical Center in Grand Coulee, WA.

Josephine worked for many years at Sioux San Hospital and was a member of Sioux Baptist Chapel, Rapid City.  Josephine was a strong Lakota woman, she valued the Lakota ways and practiced them during her journey here on Earth.  She was known for her generous heart and her kind personality and would love to tell stories and talk about Lakota ways.  She will be remembered by her laughter and amazing smile.

Josephine lived in Coulee Dam, WA for the last 6 months of her life, however, over the last 20 years she had the opportunity to live in several different states with her children. She never met a stranger, everywhere she went she easily made friends.  She loved to read Danielle Steel novels and go on car rides.  She enjoyed her adventures while she resided in Alaska and appreciated the long sunshine during the summers.

Josephine is survived by one son, Robert Ryan, (Pamela) of Elizabethtown, KY, two daughters, Desiree Ryan, (Ray) of Fairbanks, AK and Katheryn Camacho of Coulee Dam, WA; nine grand-children, Stephanie (Joseph), Jessica (Tyrone), Judy, Sarah, Emily, Austin, Joseph, Alice, Benjamin and Matthew; and one great-grandchild: Jamiyah.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn Renee Ryan and one son, Jonathon Prairie-Chicken and two brothers, Robert (Bob), Benjamin (Ben), two sisters, Edna (Florence), Audrey Dupree.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Ryan, Matthew Ryan, Austin Prairie Chicken, Russell Davis, Terry Long Soldier, Stewart Donaldson, Orin Davis, and Lonnie Prairie Chicken.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Jackson, Tyrone Belle, Joseph Williams, Joseph Camacho, Jack Long Soldier, Aaron LeBlanc, Kenneth Prairie Chicken, and All Friends & Relatives
