George was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Alliance, NE, to Laura (Zurcher) and Charles Sulzbach, one of nine sons. He grew up on the ranch in eastern Box Butte County. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1954 during the Korean Conflict. George married Shirley Koozer, Jan. 20, 1956, in Gering, NE, and they made their home in Alliance. To this union, five children were born.
Later, they moved to Buffalo Gap, SD, where George was a fireman on the Veteran's Administration Fire Department in Hot Springs, SD. After returning to the family farm for a short time, in 1968 they moved to Crawford where they ranched and farmed. George started working for the Nebraska State Road Department and they lived in Harrison for several years. They began attending the Harrison Bible Church and George trusted in Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1993.
After his retirement from the road department in 1994, George and Shirley moved back to the Crawford area and he worked several summers at Fort Robinson State Park. Throughout his years he enjoyed planting trees, gardening and growing any seeds he could find, visiting with people, reading and keeping up on current events, and collecting miscellaneous items.
