03/28/2013 - Darrel D. Wohlers

A Celebration of Life Service for Darrel D. Wohlers will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home at Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Darrel Duane Wohlers, 75 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Darrel was born January 10, 1938 at Crawford, Nebraska, the eldest of three children born to Elwin and Mildred (Leetch) Wohlers. He grew up in Chadron, while living on a farm he attended a rural school and then graduated from Chadron Prep with the class of 1956.
On June 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Westover at Anselmo, Nebraska at the St. Anselm’s Catholic Church and to this union three children were born: Cindy, Randy, and Kendra.
Following his education, Darrel then began to pursue his career in Law Enforcement, receiving his training from the Nebraska State Patrol Training Facility in Grand Island, Nebraska, graduating with the 1959 camp. Darrel served the Nebraska State Patrol as a Trooper in Broken Bow, Nebraska, where he acquired the rank of Corporal working in traffic. In 1972, Darrel was transferred to Holdrege, where he was Patrol Sergeant, later serving as the Communications Sergeant until his retirement in 1989. In his retirement years, Darrel operated an aluminum can business and was employed by Tri-City Auto Parts as a parts and car transporter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding his Harley, which he later traded for a scooter. His favorite past-time was having coffee with his buddies. When Darrel was in his wheelchair his hobbies changed, he fed squirrels off the front porch, arm-chair coached the Huskers and enjoyed staying in touch as he tuned into his scanner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harold and Anna Westover.
Darrel leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Peggy of Holdrege; his three children: Cindy Wohlers-Green and her husband, Ron Green of Lincoln, Nebraska, Randy Wohlers and his wife, Deb of Holdrege, and Kendra Norton and her husband, Dave of Bertrand, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Trent Wohlers, Jeff Ironshell and his wife, Jaime, Nicole Clements and her special friend, Seth Zeller, Colton Wohlers and his special friend, Kayla Arp, Dalton Norton, and Trisha Norton; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Alice Marie Krittenbrink and her special friend, Jim Knispell of Chadron and JoElla Spitz and her husband, Royce of Mitchell, Nebraska; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial book signing will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Darrel’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
