09/26/2012 - Dolly May Underhill

Dolly May Underhill, age 92, of Lincoln (formerly of Gordon, NE), went to live in the home of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 20, 2012.

Dolly was born in North Platte, NE on July 29 1920 to Charles Wesley and Eva (Taylor) Osborn. She grew up in the Cozad, Callaway, and Brady communities. Because her family faced financial hardship, they frequently lived in the most inexpensive homes available which were often sod houses. She graduated from Brady High School, Brady, NE and attended Chadron State College and Mid-West Bible School in Gordon, NE. She taught school for four years prior to marriage.

She married Earl E. Underhill on October 9, 1947. While raising her family, she owned and operated a Christian bookstore for about two years and served along-side her husband as janitors at the Gordon Church of God for almost 50 years. She was a member of the Church of God, Christian Women’s Connection (formerly Women of the Church of God/Women’s Missionary Society) and attended church faithfully everywhere she lived during her adult life.

Dolly was an avid reader of the Bible reading it completely through about 40 times. She was also a Grace Livingston Hill fan. She raised a vegetable garden and especially loved raising okra – a real challenge in the cool summer evenings of Gordon. She loved animals, especially dogs, and many-a stray found a home under her roof.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, son Fred, daughter Tracey, parents, brothers Melvin and Robert and sister Annabelle.
