The Mari Sandoz Story Catcher Writing Workshop has gone virtual
This one-day event features popular writers Dinty W. Moore and Alyson Hagy live on your computer screen on Monday July 6. Registration is open and closes on July 3.
When you register you will be contacted by the event organizers with instructions on how to attend the virtual workshop. The cost for the day-long session is $25. Space is limited to 20 writers.
Log-on for the welcome session at 9 am (MDT) and from 9:30 to 11:30 am (MDT) you’ll see Dinty W. Moore teaching The Art of Flash Nonfiction and the Heart Story. The flash form, concise stories that flash like lightning in a reader’s mind is a vehicle for experimentation and artistic growth. The heart story is the invisible river of meaning.
From 3:30 to 5:30 pm (MDT), Alyson Hagy will lead a craft exercise in fiction writing and read some of her recent work. Both Moore and Hagy are widely published authors.
Moore, a native of Erie, PA, earned a BA in writing from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked briefly as: a journalist; a documentary filmmaker; modern dance performer; zookeeper; and Greenwich Village waiter. After failing at each of these professions he went on to earn an MFA in fiction writing from Louisiana State University. He is the director of Ohio University’s BA, MA, and PhD creative writing programs.
Alyson Hagy grew up on a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She is a graduate of Williams College and the University of Michigan. Hagy taught at the University of Virginia, the University of Michigan, and the Stonecoast Writers Conference in Maine before joining the faculty at the University of Wyoming in 1996.
