11/23/2019 - Chadron State College’s Mari Sandoz Wacipi
The Chadron State College’s Mari Sandoz Wacipi, or powwow, will be Saturday, Nov. 23 in the Student Center Ballroom.
A free lunch will provided at noon and the Grand Entry of dancers will begin at 1 p.m.
According to event organizer, Dr. Dave Nesheim, wacipi is the Lakota word for dance, and the event is a celebration of Lakota food, dance, song, life, and culture.
Admission and parking are free and everyone is welcome.
Kansas and Kyal Middletent of Lower Brule, South Dakota, will make presentations about traditional Lakota bow making at 2 p.m. and the Lakotas as Star People at 3 p.m.
“Whether you choose to enjoy the lunch, come and listen to the Middletent brothers’ storytelling, sit back and enjoy the virtuoso performances of the drum groups and dancers, decide to get out into the dance circle, or enjoy a little bit of everything, you will surely have a good time at the Mari Sandoz Wacipi,” Nesheim said.
