(Neb)-Hickstein Wins Class C Title By 20 Strokes, Chadron 2nd As Team
NORTH PLATTE - Chadron High Senior Alpine Hickstein capped a spectacular year by running away with the Class C girl's golf state individual title and leading the Lady Cardinals to a 2nd place finish, helped by a career-best performance by teammate Taurie Pourier.
Hickstein, runner-up the last 2 years, was red-hot on a day that saw the start of the second round at the Lake Moloney Course in North Platte delayed an hour by frost, following up her opening round even-par 72 with a 2-under 72 for a 142 that was 20 strokes better than runner-up Abigail Cornelius of Cozad.
Hickstein's second round wasn't as consistent as her first round she had 16 pars, a birdie, and bogey but she was more spectacular with 5 birdies and 3 bogeys. Ironically, she birdied the hole she bogeyed on Monday and bogeyed the hole she birdied.
Pourier shot her best round ever on Tuesday, an 88 highlighted by a birdie, to finish at 187 - good for a 2-way tie for 16th.
Aubree Noble finished with a105-107-212, Kat Dodd came in 106-112-218, and Maddie Pelton shot as 112-110-222.
Chadron's 382-375-757 was 34 strokes behind Ogallala's winning 363-360-323 but 21 strokes better than 3rd place Lincoln Christian.
