(Neb.)- Golfers Wrap Up Day One In Grand Junction
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- The Chadron State College golf team opened up the Maverick Spring Invite on Monday, under splendid conditions on the Colorado Western Slope, playing the Golf Club at Redland Mesa in Grand Junction. Mikayla Gallagher carded an 85 in the first 18 holes to sit 36th and lead the Eagles, who are 11th in the tournament. The 12 teams competing are all conference members, with the exception of Cal State Monterey Bay, which led after the first round.
Gallagher's 85 came as her second-lowest round of the season, after firing an 82 in her most recent outing in Pueblo. She landed two birdie putts to tie the field for 10th.
Freshman Sydney Owen fired 86 to tie for 37th place headed into round two. That score also matched her second best of the year.
Rounding out the scoring, Kelli Haynes shot 90 to sit tied at 48th, and Sam Rahmig slipped to a 56th-place tie with a 93. Karson Langley was at 98 after the first 18 holes.
The tournament resumes Tuesday. Chadron State is paired with Black HIlls State, who is in 10th, and Adams State, who is 12th.
