(Neb.)- Herl Recognized Again As RMAC Athlete Of The Week
COLORADO SPRINGS -- Chadron State College women's track and field continued its streak of consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week mentions on Monday, with Mel Herl's fourth honor of the season. The CSC women have claimed all five tags from the conference so far this season.
Herl Moved up to No. 1 in the nation in the hammer throw at the UNK Loper Invite, going head-to-head with No. 2 Michaela Dendinger of Wayne State and setting a new school record of 62.87 meters (206-3), which is more than 13 feet past the automatic qualifying standard. Earlier at the meet, she set the country's No. 2 automatic mark of 57.05 meters (187-2) in the discus, breaking her own school record by 13 feet. Herl, who also ranks No. 3 in shot put, won the discus and was second in both shot and hammer, as the meet pitted her head-to-head against top-20 competitors Katie Taylor, Heather Buckler, and Erin Perkins of Winona State, and Mackenzie Crowder of Nebraska-Kearney.
