(Neb.)- Herl Earns Third Outdoor RMAC Athlete Of The Week

COLORADO SPRINGS -- For the third time in four weeks, Chadron State College track and field thrower Mel Herl was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week in the outdoor season.

Once again, Herl landed a new career best in the hammer throw, launching an automatic-qualifying 60.72 meters (199-2) at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colorado. The mark breaks her previous school record by more than three feet. It took a career best by Colorado State's Kelcey Bedard, now No. 14 in Division I, to beat out Herl for first place. Herl had provisional marks in the discus and shot as well, and continues to lead the conference in all three events.

In the women's field event category, CSC has now captured all four of the weekly individual honors from the conference, so far this season. Ashlyn Hanson, the conference's week two honoree, is now 10th in the nation in the hammer throw after a toss of 56.72 meters (186-1) in Boulder.
