(Neb)-Creighton 6th Seed In NCAA Tournament
OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's basketball team is returning to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in six seasons, and 20th time in program history. The Bluejays received the 6th seed in the Midwest Region and open with 11th-seeded Rhode Island Friday in Sacramento, Calif.
The game will be played approximately 30 minutes after the noon MT tipoff between Oregon and Iona, and be televised by TBS.
The bracket was unveiled on Sunday afternoon on CBS, with the team gathering to watch the Selection Show with their fans.
This year marks Creighton's 19th postseason bid in the last 20 seasons, including11 NCAA Tournament bids, and the Bluejays have won at least one game in each of their last 8 postseason appearances.
Creighton is 25-9 and coming off a loss Saturday to defending national champion and 2nd-ranked Villanova in the Big East Tournament title game.
They're led by junior guard Marcus Foster, a unanimous All-Big East 1st-Teamer, Big East Defensive Player of the Year Kyri Thomas, and Big East freshman of the year Justin Patton, who ranks 2nd in the country in field goal percentage .
Coach Greg McDermott is making his 7th trip to the D-1 tournament, including trips to the 3rd-round in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
