(Neb)-CSC Softball Sweeps 2 At Regis
DENVER, Colo. -- The Chadron State College softball team swept a doubleheader Saturday at Regis University in Denver, thanks to big 7th inning comebacks in both.
The wins by 4-3 and 8-7 margins improve the Eagles to 7-0 this season in one-run games and 6-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. They're 9-11 overall.
In the first game at Regis, pinch hitter Morgan Wilhelm hit a 3-run homer in the 7th to erase a 3-1 deficit and make a winner of starter Jessica Jarecki, who struck out 10 batters as she improved to 6-3.
The comeback in Game 2 was even bigger after Regis jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning on a pair of home runs, a 2-run shot and a 3-run blast.
It was 7-0 in the 6th when the CSC bats heated up as Taylor Bauer, Francine Boston, Alyssa Geist, Courtney Lecher, and Kayla Michel all got hits - including an RBI double by Bauer and RBI singles by Lecher and Michel that closed the score to 7-3.
Things looked bad for the Eagles in the 7th when Regis got 2 quick out, but that just set up one of the great comebacks in program history. It began quietly enough as Morgan Wilhelm singled, stole 2nd, and scored on a single by Bauer.
Lecher followed with another single and both scored on a double by Sheyann Ludwig to make it 7-6, then back-to-back doubles by Lindsey Karlin and Michel put the Eagles on top 8-7.
Sophomore Dallas Magnusson, who came in with 1 out in the 1st, retired the Rangers in order in the bottom of the 7th to even her record at 1-1. Magnusson retired 10 of the last 11 batters and had no strikeouts or walks.
The teams have another doubleheader today with the first pitch scheduled for 11:00 am.
