(Neb)-CSC Wrestlers Open Home Schedule Thurs
CHADRON, Neb. - The Chadron State College wrestling team will make its home debut at 6 o'clock Thursday night when it hosts Colorado Mesa in a RMAC dual in the Nelson Physical Activity Center. The match is dubbed "Community Night" and general admission is only one dollar.
The Eagles also will tangle with four teams Saturday during the Midwest Duals at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Although CSC coach Brett Hunter is pleased with the progress the Eagles have made, he said this week's schedule will thoroughly test them.
Hunter calls Mesa "a tough, hard-nosed team" and points out that the Mavericks have already won five duals since Jan. 1. Three of the wins were over nationally-ranked teams.
Three of the teams Chadron State will meet in Kearney also are ranked among the top 25 NCAA Division II teams in the nation. They are Central Oklahoma, tied for 8th; Cal Baptist, 12th; and Fort Hays State, tied for 18th.
The Eagles' fourth opponent will be Drury University of Missouri.
Chadron State's probable lineup against Mesa and the Eagles' records are:
125 pounds—Brandon Kile, 12-6; 133—Taylor Summers, 13-4; 141—Brock Thumm, 12-6; 149—Sean Glasgow, 13-2; 157—Johnny Porter, 6-6; 165—Reed Burgener, 4-5; 174—Chance Helmick, 16-3; 184—Willy Cogdill, 10-6; 197—Matt Kindler, 11-6; and heavyweight—Cooper Cogdill, 15-6.
Last week, the South Central Regional rankings included six Eagles. Summers was third in his weight class, Helmick fifth and Kile, Glasgow and Cooper Cogdill all seventh. In addition, CSC's Luke Zeiger was ranked sixth at 141 pounds, even though he has not competed this season because of an injury.
Hunter said Zeiger has nearly completed his rehabilitation and may wrestle at least one match at the Midwest Duals. Several other Eagles also will likely have matches Saturday, Hunter added.
