(Neb.)- Eagles To Resume Track Schedule Friday
CHADRON, Neb. -- Around 25 Chadron State College track and field athletes will open the 2017 portion of their schedules Friday at an indoor meet at Black Hills State in Spearfish.
Coach Brad Gamble said mostly throwers and distance runners will compete. The following weekend, the entire team will enter the Air Force Academy's Invitational Meet in Colorado Springs.
Although not all the teams have opened their seasons, three Chadron State women posted marks in early December that still lead NCAA Division II nationally. They are Stacia Reuwsaat, who is the pacesetter in both the 60 meters (7.52 seconds) and long jump (19-feet, 11 inches), Tessa Gorsuch, the 60-meter high hurdle leader (8.55 seconds), and Mel Herl in the 20-pound weight throw (71-10).
Herl's mark is the NCAA best for all divisions.
The Chadron State men also excelled in the throws at the two December meets and Gamble is excited about the potential exhibited by two freshmen.
The throws leaders have included Blake Jacobs, who has a shot put best of 53-8 ½, more than two feet farther than his top mark of a year ago, and Jesse Bleidt, who threw the 35-pound weight 59-7, nearly six feet longer than his best last season.
The promising freshmen are Javan Lanier, who ran the 60 meters in 6.85 seconds and long jumped 23-3 ½, and Kharon Hall, who went 47-5 ¾ in the triple jump in December.
All the field events marks mentioned are provisional qualifiers for NCAA Division II nationals.
