(Neb.)- Defense Leads To Chadron Offensive Explosion
(Chadron)- The 1-3-1 defense applied by Chadron against Hemingford on Tuesday night gave the Cardinals several fast break opportunities, and gave Marcus Fernandez two one handed jams as the Cardinals rolled the Bobcats 64-31.
Chadron came out of the gates in the defensive set and constantly caused Hemingford turnover that were turned in to layups, leading to a 12-6 first quarter lead.
By the second quarter, and for the rest of the game Chadrons denfense just caused more and more turnovers and easier scoring chances to grab a 28-13 halftime lead.
Hemingford did come out in the third quarter and scored the first point of the second half, but Fernandez caught fire in an 8-point 3rd quarter effort to extend the lead to 47--26.
A 17-5 fourth quarter sealed the deal and the 6th win of the season for Chadron. It is the first time this season that Chadron has had a .500 record or better.
Keegan Shuck, a beneficiary of outstanding defense, scored 19-points on the night, while Fernandez finished with 12.
Coy Bila addded 8-points and Jeff Cerny 6. Brendinh Sayaloune scored 5 points and Spencer Margetts 3.
Brayden Richardson, Sam Rischling, Cooper Heusman, Sean O'Brien, and Joe Matt each came away with 2 points, and Marquis Burwell made a free throw.
Chadron is back on the hardwood Friday at Alliance with tip off at 7pm.
