(Neb.)- Late Run Lifts Cards To A Win Over Valentine
By: Jeremy Anderson Posted at: 12/29/2016 09:53 PM (Chadron)- Chadron used a 23-8 game ending run to erase a 32-31 deficit to defeat Valentine 54-40 in the George Watson Rotary Holiday Tournament on Thrusday.
The Cardinals raced out to an 18-8 lead behind a trio of in the first quarter, but Valetnine would crawl back in with an 18-13 second quarter in favor of the Badgers to close the halftime gap to 31-26.
Valentine would pick up where it left off, scoring the first 6 points of the third quarter to take their one and only lead at 32-31, but Chadron rattled off the next 8 points in a row.
The Cardinals would only give up four 4th quarter points to cap off their thid win of the season.
The highlight of the night was the return of senior point gaurd Michael Gieseler, who had not played since sustained a left leg injury early last season.
Giesler had 6 points in his return by the way of two three pointers.
Brendinh Sayaloune led the way with 12 points, followed by Jeff Cerney's 9. Keegan Shcuk added 8 points and Cooper Heusman scored 7.
Gieseler added his 6, while Coy Bila came away with 5 points, and Brayden Richardson 3. Marquis Burwell scored 2.
Chadron will face Spearfish in the boys championship game at 2:30 pm on Friday at the Chicoine Center at CSC.
