(Neb.)- First National Bank North Platte Seniors Split With Torrington
(Chadron-KCSR)- The First National Bank North Platte Nationals Post 12 Seniors erupted for 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning of game 2 of a double header in Torrington, Wyoming to earn a split on Saturday. FNB North Platte Post 12 won game two, 14-12 but lost game one, 10-14.
Coach McLain noted that game one was very frustrating because pitchers had a tough time finding the strike zone. He explained, "it's disappointing to out hit a team 11 to 5 and lose. Our defense played decent, we just struggled to find the zone."
Offensively the Nationals were led by Jackson Dickerson. In his first 4 at bats he got on first, stole second and scored. Dylan Zeller and Marc Fernandez also had multiple hits in game one.
Game two saw the First National Bank North Platte Nationals plate at least one runner in every inning except the 6th. They scored 1 in each if the first 4 innings, 3 in the fifth and 7 in the 7th.
Cody Ray and Marc Fernandez provided the pitching in game two which provides Marc Fernandez with his first career victory in the senior program.
In the final frame of game 2 the Nationals got the inning rolling with a lead off walk by Trevyn Waldron followed by a base knock from Marc Fernandez. The Nats then had the bases loaded, two outs, down one, with Cody Ray up to bat. Ray hit a shot up the middle to score two runs giving the Nationals 12-11 lead. They then rallied two more runs before ending the inning.
The Torrington Tigers then struck out, flew out to left and flew out to a diving effort by Jackson Dickerson to seal a thrilling comeback victory on the road.
