(Neb.)-Pitch, Hit And Run This Weekend
(Chadron)-The local competition for the 2013 Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition will be held this coming weekend in Chadron. The competition will be on Sunday at Maurice Horse Fields in Chadron.
Registration is free and will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. with the competition starting at 3. All participants must provide a copy of a valid birth certificate or baptismal record at all levels of competition when registering. No metal spikes are allowed.
The competition for kids aged 7-14 consists of three parts. Contestants will try to pitch as many strikes as they can, hit balls off a tee for distance and accuracy and be timed as they run the bases. Both boys and girls are welcome to compete in separate divisions
Winners in each age group will have a chance to compete in the sectional competition and potentially advance to the team championship at Coors Field in Denver. The top three contestants nationally in each age group will compete for the national finals at the MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York.
Last year Chadron's Coy Bila made it all the way to the national final and finished as the runner up in the 11-12 age group.
The local competition is being hosted by the Chadron Kiwanis Club. For more information contact Rob Bila at 432-2399 or Duane Gardener at 432-4142
