(Neb.)-Eagles turn back Rangers twice in Saturday doubleheader
DENVER – The Chadron State College softball team cruised to two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference wins over Regis University Saturday in Denver.
The Eagles, now 14-18 overall and 12-13 in the conference, defeated Regis 10-2 in the opening game and followed with a 7-1 decision in the day’s finale.
The two squads will play another doubleheader today (Sunday). First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Chadron State jumped on the Rangers early in the opening game. Rebecca Wetsch hit a 3-run home run in the first inning and Danielle L’Argent added a solo 2-run shot in the fourth to put CSC up, 6-0.
The Eagles added four more runs in the fifth. Wetsch hit a 2-run double, Shea Graham hit an RBI triple and Ashlynn Marino also knocked in a run.
The Rangers scored one run in the fifth but Aryn Grywusiewicz retired the final two batters to earn her sixth victory of the season. In five innings of work, she scattered eight hits and struck out two.
Wetsch and Katie Londo each went 3-for-3 for the Eagles. Both Londo and Amy Schartz scored two runs.
Regis scored one run in the bottom of the first inning of the second game but the Eagles responded with seven unanswered runs to cruise to their 7-1 victory.
Schartz went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, including a 3-run homer, and Sarah Knudsen and Graham each added two hits.
Also for Chadron State, Marino drove in two runs in the top of the second with a 2-RBI double and Nikki Ritzen and Schartz each scored a pair of runs.
Kylee Polsley earned the complete game win. She allowed just five hits and struck out two.
