Woodhead bolts for San Diego
Former Chadron State running back Danny Woodhead is on the move after signing a two year contract with the San Diego Chargers Friday.
The two time Harlan Hill Trophy winner was a free agent after three seasons with the New England Patriots that included a trip to the Super Bowl. The North Platte native became expendable after New England signed former Seahawks running back Leon Washington Thursday.
Woodhead will likely fill a role in San Diego similar to what he had for the Patriots, providing a change of pace from Ryan Matthews and catching passes out of the backfield. Woodhead finished last season with 76 rushes for 301 yards and four touchdowns. He added 40 receptions for 446 yards and three touchdowns.
Terms of the contract are not known at this time.
