SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Chadron State College softball team extended its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference winning streak to five games by defeating Western New Mexico and Black Hills State Friday during a three-team pod in Spearfish, S.D.

The Eagles, now 9-8 overall and 7-3 in the RMAC, defeated the Mustangs 11-1 in the opener and followed with an 8-3 win over Black Hills State.

The same three teams will play one another again today (Saturday).

In the opening game, Chadron State and Western New Mexico played a scoreless first inning but the Eagles exploded for eight in the top of the second to take control of the game. They added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth while cruising to the win.

As a team, Chadron State finished with 15 hits. Nikki Ritzen, Amy Schartz and Katie Londo each had three base hits and Schartz, Shea Graham, Caity Pelayo and Danielle L’Argent each had two RBIs.

Four of the Eagles’ 15 base hits went for extra bases.

Aryn Grywusiewicz earned the complete game for CSC. In five innings of work, she allowed just one run and struck out four.

In the second game, Black Hills State led 2-0 after five complete innings but the Eagles tacked on four runs in the top of the sixth and seventh to earn the win.

Londo and Graham each had two hits and Pelayo and Graham both drove in a pair of runs.

Kylee Polsley went the distance once again for Chadron State to earn her fourth straight victory. She scattered 11 hits and struck out six in seven innings.
