(Neb.)-Area qualifiers for state wrestling
District wrestling tournaments wrapped up Saturday afternoon with 21 wrestlers in our KCSR/KBPY coverage area qualifying for the state tournament in Omaha.
In Class B, Chadron qualified seven wrestlers. Trace Strotheide lost because of an injury Friday, but fought back to take fourth place and a ticket to state at 126 lbs. Chance Bila stayed unbeaten and won the district championship at 170. Colby Riesen was also a champion at 160. The other Chadron qualifiers were Daniel Goings at 106, Tate Cullers at 145, Willy Cogdill at 152 and Cooper Cogdill at 182.
In Class C, Gordon-Rushville qualified three wrestlers: Garrett Shadbolt (113), Casey Glassgow (138) and Ken Graham (170).
In Class D, Hay Springs had a very strong tournament with five state qualifiers, including three champions. Chris Ray won the 120 title, Joey Johnson was the 132 champ and Steven Horrocks was the champion at 220. The other two qualifiers were Levi Ray (126) and Jordan Houser (170)
Hemingford qualified three wrestlers: Cooper Weber (106), Lee Jespersen (113) and Cash Weber (138). Crawford will send Slade Martinez (106) and Taylor Alcorn (220) to Omaha. Sioux County will be represented by William Skavdahl (145).
