The Chadron girls team got off to a rough start, but battled back to beat Sidney Friday night, 45-42.
The Lady Cardinals were shorthanded because of a knee injury to Ashlea Kerr and hamstring injury to Maggie Earney. Peyton Hinn and Ashlyn Eitemiller both sat out large portions of the game with foul trouble, leaving Chadron out of sync in the first half. They trailed at the break 19-17.
Chadron found its rhythm in the second half to take a 36-27 lead by the end of the third quarter. Sidney kept it close in the fourth before the Lady Cardinals finished off a three point win.
Bailea Kerr stepped up in her sister's absence, leading Chadron with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Briley Hannaford added 12 points.
The Chadron boys struggled all night, losing to Sidney 60-36.
The Red Raiders put on a shooting clinic, hitting 11 three pointers in the game, including four each from Paxton Ehler and Casey Mabey. Ehler finished the game with 19 points, while Mabey had 14.
The Cardinals scored just two points in the first quarter and trailed 28-10 at halftime. All ten of Chadron's first half points came from Spencer Eliason, who finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Chadron has now lost five straight.
Saturday's games against Valentine have been cancelled because of weather concerns. The next girls game will be against Gordon-Rushville at subdistricts Tuesday at Alliance High School. The next boys game will be Thursday at Red Cloud.
