(Chadron)- The Chadron boys and girls basketball teams both cruised to wins in the first round of the Chadron Holiday Tournament.

The girls used a presure defense building a 49-8 halftime lead on their way to a 70-24 win. Ashlea Kerr led Chadron with a team high 19 points for the Lady Cardinals now 9-1 on the season.

In the boys contest it was a tale of two halves as Chadron hit seven three pointers and outscored Hemingford 38-10 in the first half. Hemingford had the second half advantage 20-12.  Von Sayaloune led Chadron with 16 points including four three pointers for the Cardinals now 4-5.

With the wins Chadron's squads will now face Valentine at 1:30 p.m. in a girls contest and 3:00 p.m. in the boys game at Armstrong Gymnasium. You can hear the championship action on Stereo AM 610 KCSR and online at chadrad.com
