(Neb.)-Lady Cardinals win eighth straight, boys struggle against Gering
The Chadron girls basketball team played tough defense Saturday night to stay undefeated, beating Gering 54-31.
Gering was held to just four shots made from the floor in the first half as Chadron built a 32-13 lead. The Cardinals outscored the Bulldogs by 12 in the third quarter and led 48-17 after three. They struggled in the fourth quarter, but took care of business.
Chadron spread the offense around with three players scoring in double figures, led by 14 from Briley Hannaford.
The boys team was out of sync all night, losing to the Bulldogs, 54-36.
Gering made it look easy in the first half with a number of layups and open shots in the paint, led by 15 first half points from Grant Olsson.
The Cardinals tried to mount a comeback behind four 3-pointers from Josh Jensen, but were never able to close the gap.
The girls travel to Rapid City next Friday to visit St. Thomas More. The boys are off until they face Hemingford in the Chadron Rotary Tournament Dec. 28.
