(Neb.)-Eagles To Open RMAC West Schedule This Weekend
CHADRON – The Chadron State College volleyball team will make a long road trip this weekend while opening play against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference West opponents.
The Eagles will visit Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction on Friday and Fort Lewis College in Durango on Saturday. Friday’s match is set to start at 7 p.m., while Saturday’s begins at 6 p.m.
Mesa is 11-3 for the season and 5-1 in the RMAC, losing only to Western New Mexico.
Fort Lewis is 7-7 and 3-3.
Mesa edged the Skyhawks three sets to two when those teams met. The Mavericks won the fifth set 15-12.
The Eagles lost three matches last week and are now 3-12 for the season and 1-5 in the conference. However, they have played in 10 four-set matches, two more than they played all last season.
“We’re getting better every day,” interim coach Janel Baily said. “We’re still fighting. The players just need to keep working and need to believe in themselves some more.”
Mallory Irvine leads the CSC offense with 131 total kills. She is also among the conference leaders in blocks with 59.
Libero Kristina Harter is also among the RMAC’s top defensive players. She averages 4.65 digs per set to rank second in the league.
