(Neb.)-Lady Cardinals open golf season in Sidney
The Chadron girls golf team shot a team score of 405 to finish sixth in its first invitational of the season Tuesday at Sidney's Hillside Golf Course.
The team improved its score by 12 strokes over the 417 they shot in last year's opener, and all five varsity golfers improved individually from last year's season opener.
Kelli Haynes got out to a fast start with, sinking a 20 foot putt on for an eagle on the first hole. She finished the round with an 85 to place 5th.
Haleigh Shuck shot a 103, Taylor Strotheide posted a 108 and Kortney Hageman finished at 109. Cali Crile shot 121 which Head Coach Curt Holmquist said was a drastic improvement from her score on Sidney's course last year.
Holmquist said he was proud his team improved but other teams also posted better scores so he feels like they have some "catching-up" to do.
New district foe Ogallala finished ahead of Chadron with a 390. Scottsbluff won the tournament with a team score of 362, and Scottsbluff's Jordan York was the top individual with an 80.
The Lady Cardinals will return to Sidney Saturday for the Western Conference Meet.
