(Neb.) - Gering Invite results
GERING – Area high school golfers hit the links in Gering on Thursday for the Gering Invitational.
Chadron shot its best effort of the season with a team score of 344. The Cardinals were led by Hunter Hageman, who placed ninth with a 79.
Chadron golf coach Jeff Nemechek was pleased with the effort, “We shaved 27 shots off our score at our own tournament, so hopefully we have turned it around at a good time with districts in 10 days.”
Cheyenne East won the team title by two strokes over Cheyenne Central. Quintin Pope, of East, was the individual champion after shooting a 76 and defeating Myles Bittner of Laramie in a two-hole playoff. The top four teams were separated by just five strokes.
Chadron was ninth on the day and in addition to Hageman’s effort the Cardinals saw Alec Burk shoot an 86, Josh Wild with an 89, Brenton Bauerkemper carded a 90 and Calen Johnson a 93.
In Div. II, Seth Badje shot a 92 for Hay Springs to place fourth and Regg Strotheide placed ninth with a 93 for the Hawks. Chadron’s Braxton Hespe and Marcus Sandberg of Hay Springs both shot a 94 on the day. Trevor Hinn and Keenan Johnson both scored a 97. Crawford was led by Taylor Wohlers with a 100.
Chadron next travels to Ogallala on Thursday, May 10.
