(Neb.)-Eagles Have Strong Showing At Colorado Mines Meet

 GOLDEN, Colo. – Chadron State College athletes set two school records and turned in 10 additional seasonal bests on Friday during the Pre-Conference Meet at Colorado School of Mines in Golden.Cody Hunt continued to inch closer to the prestigious 60-foot mark by putting the shot put 59-11 ½ to improve upon his school record by a half inch and Kaelie Jelden cleared 11-9 ¼ to break the school record of 11-7 that was set last year by Megan Harrell.
Hunt won the shot put by nearly 16 feet and Jelden was second in the vault. Hunt’s mark ranks fourth in NCAA Division II this spring.
Hunt also won the discus with a throw of 166-7, his career best by more than 14 feet.   It also was fourth best discus mark in CSC annals and a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division II National Championship.
The junior from Lingle, Wyo., automatically qualified for nationals in the shot put at his first meet of the season.
Other top performances for the Eagles included Dean Francis’s career-best of 21.31 seconds that won first place in the 200 meters. It is a provisional national qualifier and the fifth fastest time on the Eagles’ all-time chart.
Other firsts for the CSC men were posted by Lincoln Proud in the 400 hurdles (55.66) and Greg Rodriguez in the long jump (22-2 ½).  Charith Kapukotuwa was second to Hunt in the discus and also was the runner-up in the hammer throw.
CSC women won three events. They were by Alyssa Norton in the discus (142-5) Britney Graham the shot put (41-10) and the 4x400 relay team (4:05.80).

            Hammer throw—2, Cyndi Thomas, 147-8; 4, Brittney Graham, 129-4.
            Discus—1, Alyssa Norton, 142-5; 6, Kelli Johnson, 114-3.
            Long jump—2, Jazmyn Webster, 18-4 ½.
            Pole vault—2, Kaelie Jelden, 11-9 ¼ (school record); 5-6 tie, Erin Krause and Josie Pehringer, 9-9 ¾.
