(Neb.) - Kelsey Scott leads CSC rodeo team to another big weekend
Led by senior Kelsey Scott, the Chadron State College rodeo team had another big weekend at the Casper College rodeo this past weekend.
For the second time in the last three rodeos in the Central Rocky Mountain Region, Scott won the breakaway roping, was a member of the first place team roping entry and was the all-around cowgirl.
Scott, who is from Douglas, Wyo., also captured all three of those honors at the Colorado State University rodeo March 30-April 1. And, the points she earned led the Chadron State cowgirls to the women’s team title at both rodeos.
Scott’s times in the breakaway roping were 3.4 and 2.7 seconds. She was third in the first go-round and first in the finals.
In the team roping, Scott, who is the header, and the heeler, Matt Schieck of Sheridan College, were second in the first go-round in 6.9 seconds and won the championship go-round in 7.4 seconds.
With one rodeo to go in the region, CSC rodeo coach Dustin Luper said Scott has clinched qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo in both events.
Chadron State cowgirls also won three of the top five places in the barrel race at the Casper rodeo. Freshmen Katie Loughran (Law-horn) of Broken Bow and Amy Deichert of Spearfish, S.D., were second and third, respectively, and senior Kaylee Gallino of Wasta, S.D., was fifth.
Senior Miles Spickelmier of Imperial also was fourth in the final steer wrestling standings.
Five more Chadron State contestants placed among the top 10 in the first go-round of their events to qualify for the finals.
The last rodeo of the season in the region will be at the University of Wyoming this weekend.
