(Neb.)-Cardinals Win Both Ttitles At Their Meet Saturday
The Chadron Cardinals won both team titles at their track and field meet on Saturday.
The Chadron girls rolled up 153 points while Gordon-Rushville was the runner-up with 89. Things were much closer in the boys’ competition. Chadron was first with 169 points and the Mustangs were second with 153.
Chadron senior Tyson Budler set the only record. He threw the shot put 51 feet, 10 ½ inches to erase the old mark of 51-2 ½ that was set by Paul Itaaehau of Valentine 10 years ago.
Hemingford junior Kelsy Wood continued her outstanding season by winning four events. She earned the gold medals in the 100-meter dash, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the long jump.
Two seniors were triple winners in the boys’ action. Wade Reeves of Chadron won all three of the jumps and Cole Wellnitz of Gordon-Rushville swept the three distance races.
Sophomore Ashlea Kerr of Chadron won two events—the 400 and 800-meter runs. She also anchored the winning 4x400 relay.
