(Neb)-Fischer Vs Raybould For U-S Senate In November
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Incumbent Republican Senator Deb Fischer of Valentine will face Democrat Jane Raybould, a Lincoln City Council member and grocery store executive, in her November bid for a second term in Washington. Fischer beat former governor and senator Bob Kerrey by 16 points in 2012.
Fischer won almost 76% of the vote Tuesday in defeating four GOP challengers who argued she wasn't conservative enough, but the rancher and former state senator received endorsements from most of the state's elected Republican officials and got an election day tweet from President Trump urging voters to get out to the polls and vote for Fischer.
Raybould easily defeated three Democratic challengers with 64%. Chris Janicek, the owner of an Omaha specialty cake business, was 2nd with 20%. Raybould has run a statewide campaign before as Chuck Hassebrook's running mate against Pete Ricketts four years ago.
