(Neb)-Box Of Trash Triggers Bomb Scare At Scottsbluff Post Office
SCOTTSBLUFF - The Scottsbluff Post Office was evacuated for about half an hour late Saturday morning after a suspicious, partially-opened package was found in the building.
Scottsbluff police and fire units responded with all postal employees and customers evacuated before the Scottsbluff Police Bomb Squad arrived and eventually determined there was no threat.
Firefighter DJ Glenn told KNEB radio the post office made "absolutely the right call" in becoming suspicious over an unknown package and calling for the bomb squad.
When the bomb technicians arrived, they first monitored the air inside the building for any indications of explosives or other health risks, then x-rayed the box.
When the x-ray failed to show any explosives, the technicians opened the box from the side and found it contained only trash and debris that had apparently been left with no intent to cause problems.
Glenn said the incident serves as an excellent reminder to not leave anything lying around that could be seen as suspicious
