(Neb)-School Board Awards Contract For Middle School Roof Listen
CHADRON - With little discussion, the Chadron School Board last night approved a nearly $89,000 bid from Fisher Roofing of Scottsbluff to replace the roof on Chadron Middle School this summer.
Board President Tom Menke says there wasn't a need for discussion because the Middle School roof was the top priority coming out of a workshop last Monday on the district's buildings and grounds needs.
The workshop was the latest in a series begun because some newer board members had questioned recommendations made by 3-member board committees they weren't on. Menke says the workshops give all 6 board members a chance to look at projects and policies in depth.
The board also regretfully accepted the retirements of 3 employees - 2 teachers and the custodian - and the resignations of another teacher and a paraprofessional library assistant.
Elementary music teacher Chris Dickerson has been with the Chadron Public Schools for 25 of her 30 years as a teacher, Jolene Nielsen has commuted weekly from Gordon the last 9 years while working special ed, and Charla Shipley is the long-time custodian at East Ward Elementary, now Chadron Primary.
High School Physical Sciences and Chemistry Teacher Abigail Frey is leaving after her first year as a teacher because her fiancee's new job is in Wyoming.
HIgh School Principal Jerry Mack says everyone did all they could to find Frey's fiancee a job in his field in this area because they didn't want to lose her...adding that Frey is the type of teacher that if you can get her for only one year, it's still worth it.
