(Wyo)-Mead Names Buchannan Secretary Of State
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Wyoming Governor Matt Mead has chosen former Speaker of the state House of Representatives Ed Buchanan of Torrington as Secretary of State, filling the vacancy created when Ed Murray resigned Feb 9 amid allegations of sexual misconduct 3 decades earlier.
Buchanan, Cheyenne attorney and former congressional candidate Darin Smith, and Park County farmer and GOP national committeeman were recommended to Mead by the Wyoming Republican Party Central Committee from a pool of 8 applicants.
Mead interviewed all 3 on Tuesday and says he received input from people across the state. He considered both in selecting Buchanan, who ran unsuccessfully for Secretary of State in the last election.
The governor says Buchanan understands state government from his time in the Legislature, has been a respected attorney and prosecutor, and had a military career Mead admires.
Buchanan says it's an honor and privilege to be selected by the Central Committee and Governor Mead, adding that he pledges his best efforts to the State of Wyoming and her citizens...calling himself "blessed and honored to serve."
