(SD)- Second Defendant Takes Plea In Stabbing Death Of RC Store Clerk
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The second of two men charged in a robbery of Rapid City convenience store last year that turned deadly has reached a plea agreement.
20-year-old Cody Grady pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of 2nd-degree robbery after originally being charged with 1st-degree murder in the stabbing death of Loaf 'n' Jug clerk Kasie Lord following an attempt to steal beer in January 2017.
Both sides have agreed to a recommendation of 7-1/2 years in prison when Grady is sentenced March 21st, but the judge isn't required to follow the recommendation.
The other defendant in the case, 20-year old Carlos Quevedo, pleaded guilty in November to 2nd-degree murder for the actual stabbing and faces a mandatory life term when sentenced next week.
Grady says he fought with Lord after she confronted him and Quevedo as they tried to steal beer from the store, but that she was still alive when he ran from the store. Store video showed Lord following Quevedo outside where he stabbed her more than 30 times.
