(SD)-Single-Vehicle Rollover Near Hermosa Claims One Life
HERMOSA, S.D. - The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a one-vehicle rollover accident shortly before noon Saturday near Hermosa claimed one life and sent the other 2 occupants to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Names have not been released pending notification of families.
The Highway Patrol says an SUV driven by a 44-year old man was westbound 4 miles east of Hermosa on South Dakota Highway 40 about 11:30 Saturday morning when it drifted off the roadway and he lost control. The SUV went across both lanes and into the south ditch, where it rolled.
The driver remained in the vehicle while both passengers, a 34-year-old male and 47-year-old female were ejected, as was a small puppy. Whether seatbelts were used is under investigation.
All 3 people were taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital where the female passenger died Sunday morning of her injuries. The puppy was taken to a Rapid City veterinarian, but its condition isn't known. Charges are pending against the driver.
