(Neb)-NSP Investigating Prison Shanking
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska prison officials say an inmate at the Lincoln Correctional Center was stabbed several times with a homemade knife and hospitalized early Sunday morning, with the Nebraska State Patrol investigating the incident.
23-year old Mikael Loyd is serving 30-to-35 years for 2nd-degree murder in the 2013 strangling of his 19-year-old girlfriend, whose body was dumped in an open grave at an Omaha.
Prison officials did not release the name of the attacker or details of the incident, but Loyd's grandmother, Deidra Loyd, told the Omaha World-Herald that he nearly died and underwent surgery.
