(Neb)-SWANN To Burn Chadron Brush Pit On Thursday
CHADRON - SWANN, the Solid Waste Agency of Northwest Nebraska, will burn one of its 2 brush piles at the Chadron transfer station on Thursday. Smoke will be visible and smelled until the fire burns out, which is expected to take several days.
Executive director Jack Nemeth had planned to conduct the burn last week, but scrapped it when forecasts for conditions didn't cooperate. Nemeth says the biggest factor is the wind, which needs to be from the south or southwest to push the smoke away from the city.
Nemeth emphasizes that no trash will be burned at the transfer station, only brush that has been hauled in and placed in the full pile. The second pile at the site will continue to accept brush and wood debris during the burn.
