(SD)-Pennington County Restores Funding For Building Security
By: John Axtell Posted at: 01/06/2018 11:50 PM RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Complaining about budget cuts for security at the Pennington County administration building in Rapid City has paid off for county employees - the county commissioners reversed course and reinstated the funding.
The commissioner slashed security funding for the 2018 budget last fall to manage proposed raises for county employees, triggering a barrage of written and verbal complaints from employees who work in the building.
The workers explained they often need to have security personnel close by to curb bad behavior among individuals who come in to pay taxes, renew vehicle registration, or conduct business.
The bad behavior they've seen includes fights among people standing in line and being sworn at by angry patrons.
The complaints and stories apparently struck a chord with the commissioners, who voted unanimously late last month to reinstate the funding for security.
