(SD)-Deadwood Approves Annexation Petition
DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - The Deadwood City Commission has approved a petition from a private developer for a 1,020-acre annexation that would extend the Deadwood city limits to beyond the Frawley Ranch courtyard barns. Frawley Ranches, Inc, is the developer.
Mayor Chuck Turbiville told the Black Hills Pioneer that the next step is for the city commission to negotiate an annexation agreement with the developer, but that county and state review will also be needed.
JR Hamblet, director of operations for Elkhorn Ridge on the Historic Frawley Ranch, told the paper the idea is to help the city with affordable housing and by creating a 6-acre sports field across from Centennial Quarry designated for soccer, baseball and walking paths.
