(SD)-High-Speed Chase Yields Body In Vehicle's Trunk
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says a California man was arrested New Year's Day after police found the body of a dead woman in his vehicle following a high-speed chase between Spearfish and Rapid City.
30-year-old Tosten David Walsh Lommen of Santa Cruz is being held on multiple counts while a release from Jackley's office says the woman's death is "suspicious" and under investigation by the state Division of Criminal Investigations.
Authorities say a Highway Patrol trooper spotted Lommen driving over 100 mph on Interstate 90 near Spearfish and tried to stop him, but that a chase ensued - reaching 118 mph.
The pursuit ended when Lommen's vehicle was disabled by spike strips near Rapid City and he tried to flee on foot. The body was found during a subsequent search of the vehicle.
