(Neb)-Happy New Year!
CHADRON - Today is New Year's Day. All government offices....city, county, state, and federal...are closed as are all financial institutions, and there is no mail delivery. Schools are also still on holiday break.
Listeners will probably notice the absence of some of our regular daily programs starting today. Charles Osgood has retired and with him the Osgood File while several programs we had received from the CBS Radio Network are no longer being offered.
January 1st is traditionally a time to look both back and forward...fitting since the month is named after the 2-headed Roman god Janus.
Governor Pete Ricketts is celebrating New Year's with his extended family and included wishes for a happy and joyous New Year in his formal holiday message, which focused on the many things Nebraskans can be thankful for heading into 2018.
Ricketts said the state hit "exciting growth benchmarks" that included record jobs numbers, a new high in population, and the lowest unemployment rate in two decades...all during the year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of statehood.
The governor also said there will be more opportunities for growth in the coming year and that "Your team at the State of Nebraska will continue to work together to grow the Good Life, so that our state remains the best place in the world to live, work, and raise a family. "
