(Neb)-Chadron Band Rib Fundraiser A Hit But Ribs Still Available
CHADRON - A lot of Chadron area residents are enjoying ribs this weekend as the Chadron Public Schools band program concluded a successful fundraiser...but there are still ribs available.
Band members and parents sold ribs earlier this month at prices of $15 for a half-rack of 5 ribs and $25 for a full rack of 10 ribs with cooking and pickup Saturday, but band director Joe Rischling said at the end of cleanup that there were still 15-to-20 racks remaining.
Rischling said the extras were the result of so many people ordering ribs that instead of the 2 cases he planned to buy, he needed to get a third even though a good portion of those ribs hadn't been sold.
The remaining ribs have been refrigerated and are available for purchase over the next couple of days. Anyone wanting to buy a half rack, full rack, or 3 racks for $60 can call 308-430-3595.
Rischling, who sells ribs at various summer events, said he had a great crew of volunteers helping with the preparation, cooking, boxing, and distribution...about 30 of them in two shifts, including about 10 band fathers who braved the cold with him to do the actual cooking.
Rischling said that with another good show of support from the community and rib prices that were a little lower than he paid last year, he estimates the fundraiser has brought in about $3,000.
The money from the rib sale will be used to support the band program in a number of ways including college scholarships, instrument repair or replacement, music, and travel expenses for out-of- town performances or competitions.
Although the rib fundraiser is over, Rischling says donations to the band program are welcomed year-round through the Chadron Public Schools Foundation. More information is available by calling the school district office at 308-432-0700.
The Chadron school band program includes full school year bands at the high school and middle school levels plus a one-semester introduction for 5th-graders.
