(Neb)-Neb Tourism Commission Turning To Out-Of-State Firms
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Tourism Commission has entrusted the state's message to 3 companies from outside the state to get the attention of tourists who haven't paid attention to Nebraska.
The commission received proposals from 12 marketing and advertising agencies over the summer, including 5 from Nebraska, but the 3 that were chosen are all based in Colorado or have an office there.
At least one Lincoln businessman has questioned why no Nebraska agency was even given the chance to deliver an oral presentation and why all the chosen agencies have Colorado connections.
Before State Tourism Director John Ricks came to Nebraska earlier this year,he had been the associate director of the Colorado Tourism Office
An official of one of the 3 chosen marketing agencies says she and her crew are looking for an emotional connection for Nebraska to tell the story of a state and what it can stand for.
Nebraska has fallen behind most other states in its efforts to attract out-of-state tourists and placed last in a recent national ranking of locations people would like to visit.
