(Neb)-Dawes Co Commissioners Approve Budget Listen
CHADRON - The Dawes County Commissioners this morning approved the budget and tax for Fiscal 2018, which begins next month.
The budget is $7.6-million dollars with a $4.8-million dollar general fund while the $3.2-million dollar property tax request is about $110,000 higher than this year with a tax rate of just over 37-cents per hundred dollars of assessed value, a fraction of a penny more than last year
The commissioners' budget hearing this morning ran about 40-minutes, thanks to questions and comments from 5 area ranchers. Board chairman Jake Stewart appreciated their imput.
Some meetings with local ranchers in recent years have featured high emotions and occasionally sharply raised voices, but today's input was friendly and businesslike....another thing Stewart appreciated.
Stewart says there were no major changes in this year's budget, but health insurance is up 14% and the county added another fulltime position in the jail and 2 in the road department.
Stewart says the new road department positions are partially offset in the budget by eliminating 4 part-time positions that almost impossible to fill.
