(Neb)-NU Announces Plan To Save $30-M To Help Close Budget Gap
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds has announced a new plan to save the university system $30 million in coming years as part of the effort to close a $49 million budget gap created by a combination of state funding cuts and rising costs
Bounds says nearly $25 million of the savings, about 80%, will come from sharing more services across campuses as well as by trimming operational costs and jobs. He expects to eliminate at least 100 jobs, most through attrition but some through layoffs.
Bounds says the school will raise tuition and increase enrollment at all its campuses to address the remaining $19 million dollar shortfall.
